B+W  Filters

The B+W filter manufacturing company was founded in Berlin in  1947 by business partners Biermannand Weber. In 1985 the merger with the Jos. Schneider
Optical Works in Bad Kreuznach expanded the B+W line of products with optical filters for science and technology. It also generated significant progress in multi-layer coating systems (MC). As a result, B+W became the first manufacturer of filters in the world to offer the innovative water- and dirt repelling MRC multi-layer coating process, which, in addition to its reflection-preventing qualities is also regarded as being especially scratch-resistant.

Filters solve a great variety of tasks in photography. They match the illumination to the type of color film; they enhance contrast and colors; they attenuate the amount of incoming light; they can make the structures invisible to our eyes visible to the film; and they offer numerous optical effects for creative composition or for abstractions. Filters make it possible to achieve photographs that simply could not be made without them, and many of them could not be accomplished with subsequent digital image manipulation! The same applies to direct digital photography. B+W therefore provides digital imaging filters in diameters and designs suitable for lenses on most current digital cameras and camcorders.

In order to deliver optimal image quality and to safeguard the high demands of lens/camera manufacturers, B+W glass filters are manufactured virtually exclusively from glass supplied by the German Schott Group. In Bad Kreuznach, the most modern fabrication machines produce highly precise filters in an impressive variety of types and diameters. Quality controls are integrated at all key stages of the production process, and a final inspection of every individual filter ensures the renowned high B+W quality standard.

At B+W, our commitment to our guarantee and service are taken seriously. Continuous improvements and new developments enable users to achieve their best possible images. By comparison, a cheap filter can reduce the imaging performance of  a high-quality lens quite dramatically! Therefore, consider the quality of a filter as seriously as you would consider the choice of your lenses – look for the B+W brand, because the quality of the image depends upon what is in front of the lens!

B+W UV and Skylight Filters For Film and Digital Cameras

Ultraviolet light, which manifests itself in photographs as reduced clarity and the appearance of haze, is blocked by the UV 010. Ultraviolet light is invisible to the eye and is strong in mountainous and coastal areas with very clear air. This makes the colorless UV 010 an indispensable camera filter because it requires no exposure compensation. It is recommended as an ideal filter to be kept permanently on the lens to protect the front element. Filter factor is 1.0.

Due to its light pink color, the KR 1.5 reduces the blue cast of daylight and results in a pleasing, warmer picture tone. At the same time, it blocks ultraviolet light and reduces haze in the scene. It is also known as a skylight filter and, like the UV 010, it may be kept permanently on the lens for protection. Filter factor is approx. 1.1.

B+W Polarizer Filters For Film and Digital Cameras

"NEW" B+W XS-PRO DIGITAL FILTERS

All XS-Pro filters employ a newly developed mounting ring that is especially suited for SLRs with wide angle and zoom lenses. The extremely thin design prevents the mounting ring from vignetting in even the widest shots.

These new mounts are especially suited for SLRs with wide-angle and zoom lenses. They have a front thread for additional accessories such as lens caps or hoods. All XS-PRO Digital mounts are made of brass and are matt black to prevent reflections.

MRC refers to the unique Multi Resistant Coating developed by Schneider-Kreuznach, which comes as standard on B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters. It provides perfect anti-reflection, brilliant colors and high contrast. Only Schneider lenses and B+W filters are protected by this extremely resistant multi-layer broadband coating (eight layers on both sides). In addition, the scratch-resistant, water- and dirt- repellent outer layer makes it easier to clean the glass surface. Due to its low residual reflection (0.5%) MRC prevents ghosting or double images, which can be caused by return reflections from sensors.

Linear polarizers are used with most manual focus SLR and rangefinder cameras to increase color saturation and reduce reflections. The neutral gray color and plane parallel polarizer material guarantee optimal image results. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is positioned in relation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8.

B+W F-Pro MRC Circular Polarizer Filters
B+W Slim MRC Circular Polarizer Filters This filter is specially designed to be used with auto-exposure and auto-focus SLR and video cameras. It does not influence the metering systems of these cameras. Filter factor is 2.3 to 2.8.

This unique filter combines the advantages of a polarizer and a skylight filter. It brings together the advantages of both filters in color photography while producing impressive photographs with not only vibrant colors but also a very pleasing warm tonal quality. Available in linear or circular. Filter factor is 2.3 to 2.8.

B+W Filters for Infrared

This dark red camera filter is for black and white infrared films and filters at light below approximately 650nm. It allows pictures of a pure red image while making good use of the relatively low sensitivity of infrared films. Filter factor is approx. 20-40.

This black infrared filter will filter out the entire visible spectrum. It is used with black and white infrared films with a sensitivity up to 1000nm. Filter factor is determined by the film sensitivity.

B+W 099 Filters

This orange colored camera filter blocks the blue and blue-green portion of the visible spectrum up to approximately 520nm. It reduces the excessive sensitivity of color infrared films for this spectral range, helps avoid blue tint and differentiates colors more evenly. Filter factor depends on film sensitivity.
